SIXTH DAY | Modern Art is even better!

We arrived at the Tate Modern at 14:30. I went to this museum last year and I loved it. I'm very interest in modern and contemporary art and there was a lot to see, it is a huge museum.

Since 1990, the Tate Modern houses cotomporary and modern art. It is in the center of London, next to the Thames. The museum is built in an ancient power plant. The former machinery room was reconverted to an immense hall used for exeptional exhibitions.

It already exposed works of great artists like Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Louise Bourgeois or Juan Munoz and many others..

Louise Bourgeois 'Maman' (sculpture that we saw in the Tate Modern)

Like in the National Gallery we had to find our favorite work of art in the museum. It was more complicated to me because I liked a lot of things. I choose a work from Sophie Calle who is a french photographer that I like.

I choose her work on the hotel rooms. It is 4 different works on the same thing : people's hotel room, with their things, clothes, everyday details and on each of them, the top of the bed with the room numbers.

I like these pictures and the work because it shows an aspect of life with frank details. It's not prepared, the pictures has been taken spontaneously, like owner let his stuff in the room. It shows everyday life, postcards, toilets, suitcases, undone beds, rosaries, razors, creased clothes...it shows imperfection and routine. We live everdyday with these objects but we never show them, we never take care of them but they are with us everyday. They show how we live, what kind of life we have, what we are doing everyday. We never think about them but they are saying things about us.

Before we left the museum we spent a lot of time in the museumshop wich is really fantastic. I bought a lot of postcards and there where many beautiful books and albums. Then I got lost and everybody was waiting for me. I don't know how I managed that, but I fortunately survived for the Mac Donald's (and the Globe Theater of course).
