FIRST DAY | Part II : I want an Oxford sweatshirt!

Christ Church

the essential Oxford College

The Christ Church was built by Cardinal Wolsey and founded by Henry VIII. It was established in 1546. Christ Church has been a site of religious worship since the seventh century. The present cathedral was built in the twelfth century.

It is the largest college in Oxford. It is a very famous place because of it's prestige : 13 prime ministers were educated there, but also it is the college that inspired Alice's adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Caroll (that I love). You can also find there the tomb of Oxford's patron saint and a picture gallery.

Henry VIII / Lewis Carrol /St Frideswide, Oxford's patron saint.

Christ Church has a lot of famous architecturally buildings, and we visited some of them :

Christ Church Library, Peckwater Quadrangle, the Great Quadrangle, Blue Boar Quadrangle, Canteberry Quadrangle, The Old Library, Christ Church Hall, The Meadow Building, Christ Church Cathedral, Christ Church Picture Gallery...

So at three o'clock we visited this Christ Church College. I have to say that it's a beautiful place and it would have been fun to see some students, because like it was, it doesn't looked like a college at all. Indeed Paul Louis Courrier doesn't look as attractive as the Christ Church College. What I found very nice was more de park, the green space, the lawn everywhere than the buildings. We really miss that in France!

Yes! there are some cows too, and they made Charlotte's hapiness. We walked around the park and I wish I could do it again but when it's not so windy and cold!

I loved the playing field, I don't know why. Maybe because for me it's such a "cliché" of great british colleges (like this one).

When we enterred I was a bit disapointed, I didn't found the place pleasant. I think if there would have been students and teachers it would have given more "life" to it. Anyway I would love to study in a school like that. It's always better than buildings that look like hospitals.

In the building it wasn't extraordinary, but I liked the Christ Church Hall, first because i would love to eat there and secondly because it is the room used in Harry Potter the movie.

When the visit of Christ Church College was over, we had time to go in Oxford and visit a little bit by ourselves and make a bit of shopping. Some of us bought the Oxford Sweatshirt (you have to buy one if you are a good tourist). But I didn't bought it in Oxford because I am a cheater, I bought a navy one in London (it was 10 £ cheaper).

Oxford is a very nice town and everything looks cute or ancient, like if it was made to stay in the traditional style. I really liked it.

So Oxford's visit's over, at 17:30 we had to go to Stratford Upon Avon and finally meet our family!
