FOURTH DAY | Part II : Return towards the past
Warwick Castle is a medieval castle in Warwick. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1068 and was rebuilt and updated a number of times. It became a touristic attraction in 1978 after it had been purchased by the Tussauds Group.
The castle can be divided in different parts :
As you can see it is a very big castle, and there are a lot of things to do. We startet with the stairs to see the castle from the top. It was quite impressive and the sight was beautiful. We were lucky because we had a very good weather, it was very sunny.
For me it really looked like the typical medieval castle. And because it's a very touristic place, they organise a lot of activities and shows that gives life to the castle. For example we saw a show of an hawk flight.
Then we entered the castle and visited it. First all was in the medieval style, with figures in wax to represent the activities in the castle's rooms. There were many stage settings with voices and wax characters that really frightened me sometimes.
No they're not wax people, these people are those who have to take care of us, "l'équipe encadrante"...(they seem to have a good time!) :)
Then we went in another part of the castle. The castle was home to the Earls of Warwick until 1978 when it was bought by the Tussaud's Group. The castle has since been extensively restored, and the expertise of the Tussaud's Studios has been used to create wax figures that help portray life in the castle during different periods of its history.
I prefered this part, I thought it was more worked, there were more details, and I simply prefer this period to the medieval time. Some rooms were beautiful and it really looked like people still lived there.
We saw a catapult demonstration and it was rather impressive but I prefered the peacocks. We saw a lot of them in the garden with the greenhouse, it was a very nice place (and very sunny!)
At the end of the visit we went in the souvenirshop (like everytime) and returned in our coach (like everytime).
